Identifying Fish Stocks Requiring Federal Conservation and Management in Hawaii

The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) Pacific Islands Regional Office (PIRO), Sustainable Fisheries
Division (SFD) proposes to hire a contractor to assess the harvest of bottomfish, crustacean, precious
coral, and coral reef ecosystem MUS from the EEZ around Hawaii. The contractor would identify those
stocks that meet the criteria for stocks in need of conservation and management. The contractor would
also identify other stocks that do not meet the criteria, and recommend to the Council and NMFS
whether these other stocks should continue to be included in the FEP as ecosystem components or be
removed from the FEP.

The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) Pacific Islands Regional Office (PIRO), Sustainable Fisheries
Division (SFD) proposes to hire a contractor to lead the development of a Stock Assessment and
Fisheries Evaluation (SAFE) report for fisheries managed under the Fishery Ecosystem Plan for Pelagic Fisheries of the Western Pacific (FEP), developed by the Western Pacific Fishery Management Council
(Council) and implemented by NMFS. The contractor will be responsible for ensuring completion of the
SAFE report and identifying a standard format and process for developing SAFE reports for other FEPs in
the region.
