Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission (PSMFC) intends to charter a vessel engaged in the west coast groundfish bottom trawl fishery to participate in a study to examine size selection characteristics of three codends that differ in mesh size and configuration. This project will be a collaborative study between the PSMFC, the NOAA Fisheries-Northwest Fisheries Science Center (NWFSC), and the west coast groundfish bottom trawl fishing industry.
This project seeks to conduct up to 14 sample days depending on charter rate between 20 August and 30 September 2012. PSMFC and NWFSC will be responsible for designing the project and providing all scientific equipment needed for the project. The port used for mobilization and demobilization will be determined once the contractor has been selected. The mobilization time is necessary for loading gear, setting up equipment, and orienting the scientific crew with the vessel. The demobilization time frame will include offloading the scientific gear brought aboard the vessel during the project.
