Welcome to the second issue of Kelp Forest! Kelp Forest is the newsletter of the California Department of Fish and Game's Northern California Sportfish Project and Northern California Nearshore Shellfish Assessment Project. We had hoped to publish this newsletter twice yearly, but it looks like the effort involved and small size of our staff prescribe annual publication. Contributors to this issue are marine biologists Konstantin Karpov and Doug Albin, fisheries data technician Wade Van Buskirk, and fisheries technician Rouvaishyana. Special thanks to Patty Shanahan of Comptche, California, for the cover art!

The Northern California Sportfish Project is responsible for research and management of marine sport fisheries, except salmon and invertebrates, along the northern California coast. The Northern California Nearshore Shellfish Assessment Project is responsible for research and management of the northern California abalone sport fishery.

The purpose of Kelp Forest is to provide public information on northern California marine sport fishery resources and issues. If you would like to be placed on our mailing list, or have any questions you would like answered in Kelp Forest, write to us at the above address.
