I scanned anouther before pic and 2 during which I thought may be interesting.

The wagon is bare metal the patch panels are the darkblue metal.I hand formed the wheel wells,It did not take too long. The worst part of the welding was the inner wheel panels.I ground everything to bare metal, sand blasted rusty leftovers, and went from there. It would be a pleasure to afford total blasting first. The body mounts were good so bodymen friends told me not to bother to take it off the frame. In one pic you can see 6in of rust on the drivers door. I fabricated the repair panels in about 4 hours. The entire door bottom was gone. The passenger door provided a guide to work from. The rear doors have no pics. It was more like reserecting the dead then restoration. I rewelded the hinges to the doors and replaced the bottoms on both. Both doors were kicked in and badly dented.I was suprised how thick the metal is in the rear doors. I replaced the bottom 12in on drivers rear door. The body rust occured as the truck was a chicken coop for a while. the inner walls were filled with sawdust, the headliner had a rat nest on top. the truck did run even with the years of abuse.I had to work fairly fast on this one,I lost the shop and had 1 month to get the body road ready. Enough talk here is the pics.Has anyone figured out a suitable power steering upgrade?Does changing the master brake cylinder to dual cylinder make much diff?

HI David, I used a 1952 dodge 4 door car hood emblem on my 1961 W100. I owned the car for 17 years and was happy the hood ornament fit perfectly. Check out the pic.

Good day. I have been having great fun with my front end work .I put the bearings seals etc and buttoned the thing up. However the front diff casing was hooped. the wheels had far too much king pin freeplay, reducing the shims in the cap was no fix. I ended up pulling an old one that I had picked parts from and used the whole front end. It was a 69 doner front end.I used axle parts from both to use the big knuckles and had some fun fitting it all together. the front end is within tolerance now and back together. Interesting problem though, the truck plate reads spicer 60- 4.1 gears . The dana 44 ring and pinion reads 1960 18520 45-11 gears. the pinion reads 18519 45-11 1960. I am lucky the 69 replacement has the same gear ratio, but I am now going to rip apart the rear end to check the gear ratio, and ensure they are compatable.I wonder why the truck ID plate would not just say 411 gears. THis truck being a farm truck could have been repaired with 411 gears in the front. it was obvious the front end had gone thru the war, it was TRASHED!!!! broken gears and housing parts smashed all over. Anybody know the about this?????I hope the rear is better or I will be parts hunting again. The 69 dodge half ton upper frame shock mounts fit the frame holes in the W100 to move the shock location behind the diff so the steering box can fit in front of the diff.. This 69 diff I collected was modified, had the shock mounts cut off the front and welded behind for the power steering upgrade. now with the frame shock mounts collected it is a bolt in location change for me. The drag link from the 69 dodge half ton 4x4 is too long to use on the W100. the W100 4x4 drag link is too short I think to use.So I am using the power steering box from the 69 dodge half ton 4x4, and using a drag link from an older style dodge standard steering crew cab that the drag link appears to be a good length so the steering box is not sitting too far forward on the frame. the next problem will be the steering wheel hook up to the new power steering location. standard fittings so should not pose too much problems.. I guess I could have taken a few pics of this work but too greasy to bother. hope this makes sense- Ray

I had a lucky day today! The day before my son goes back to school. I was touring a metal recycling yard and high on a pile of twisted squished metal was a mid 70's dodge half ton 4x4 frame front. It had a dana 44 and power steering unit intact. I tore appart the Dana to find new bearings in the caps and good knuckles, exactly what I needed.I now have my front end half rebuilt. The power steering unit bolts onto a bracket that bolts on the outside of the frame in front of the diff, where the shock mount is.I got the drag link also in good shape. I really liked the price.FREE. anyway I will use the unit to upgrade to power steering. I was going to find a chev series 950 1979 truck power steering unit to mount the same way. This way it is all dodge. Anyone tried this before? Finding those front end parts has been a struggle.I discovered I have a spicer 44 with the 8 bolt hubs. Also I found my trans parts at 99 truck parts in surrey BC. The trans and clutch are up and running. All for now.Ray

Goodday. Are your cylinders completely shot? You probally have a chance to hone them out and put in a wheel cylinder kit. Wagner part # F13620 . I got parts for mine at NAPA no problem.Apparantly they are common easy to get cylinders.I got the kits in a day.good luck.

I will finish my transmisson I got blown off by hitting a wrong key I guess. 99 Truck parts in Surrey BC has been in business for ever. I will check them out for a forward /rev PTO for the trans.I guy I know has collected aworld war 2 Air compressor that hooks up to a single direction PTO unit off the transmission.Thats interesting. If I get that for free I will probally use the PTO unit I have and go with an electric winch up front.I should find out soon.A winch and Air compressor is a plus. I am starting to plan a front and rear bumper combo for Kirk to build for me.His MIG is bigger than mine. I found a battery tray that will do for a second battery stand on the passenger side with a few mods.It will look nearly stock.I am not completely happy with my gas tank. looking for a replacement.set up. I have collected Air shocks and spring shocks that will fit the rear, Haven't decieded which I will pop in, Any thoughts? Also have 4 matched large shocks that will fit round the truck. Decisions,decisions........ Time to go..Ray

Good aday Alan, I saw an interesting potential power steering unit for our PW's today. My mechanic buddy who made my drive shafts cheap has a 72 chev 4x4 pickup done up to incredable off road standards. Self built. The 72 chev frame rails look similiar to dodge PW.I suggest you check out a 79 chev 950 series truck with power steering. The unit is lagre lots of power, bolts to the frame in front of the Diff. I will take some measurements to see if it will fit but my eye says no problem. I think I will go this route. There may be some minor problem with steering column but It only took Kirk about half an hour to install this power steering unit. His truck has Dana 70 front, corporate 14 bolt rear,NP205, 45 inch tires. He says this power steering unit is real common and cheap. Thinks he can find me one for free or very cheap. Bi town Diesel has found a company who knows the part #'s for the Knuckle caps I need. Find out parts availability on monday. Also 99 truck parts in Surrey B.C. may have all sorts of goodies squirreled away. They have the trans case for my ACME T98A, Actually made by warner. They may have old big block dodge bell housings etc, I have a single direction PTO unit for the trans, faces backward.

I have collected spools from 47 to 60's from cars and trucks. I think it is the same spool. I recently tore appart a 57 plymouth 4 door just for the spools in the rear doors,. good to have spares. . Ray.

I found a fix for the door latch problem you have. The cheap metal spool locking mechanism is a pain in the butt.I found a similiar year back door from a dodge crew cab pulled the latch apart and carfully replaced the spool in the power wagon.Works like new now.You have to find a doner vehicle with a good spool.I think you can also check out dodge cars for latch spools.

Good day! I have been busy playing with the w100 4x4.Drive line. I dropped the Transmissin and broke the top casing where the stick fits in . Will probally be expensive to replace .I replaced the wide block 318 with a 1971 318 out of a Dart, rebuilt it. I had collected a 74 dodge truck flywheel, clutch and threw out the trans, sometime in the past. The 318-A partsdo not interchange well. The old flywheel will not work on the car motor. The 74 flywheel fits. The flywheel is thinner than the old one.and requires a different starter on the old bell housing.I have collected a few old starters from flat head 6's toconvert to 12 volt for my older toys.I have an old starter with a small nosecone 2 holes in it from a 60's slant 6 I think. The nose cone fits for length and lines up however the holes are in the wrong place and I am going to drill new holes to fit the starter in. THE OLD BELL HOUSING HAS 3 BOLT HOLES FOR THE STARTER.The old starter is far too deep to work with the 74 flywheel. Interesting problem. I took the front Diff apart. The king pin bearings on the bulb are timkin 11520,11590 The dodge book says a DANA 44 takes those bearings. I need to find the outer caps which hold the knuckle together. If someone has some usable ones I will buy them. Someone had custom built the upper cap bearings and outer caps. Wrecked them both.I will scan some pics this week. I was playing with drive shafts also.I went to Vancouver for holidays and won 2000.00 on the 649 so I bought toys for my son and I.I had the 15 inch drive shaft built, cost 265.00. I only get bitten once so I did not have the others made new also. I had collected 17 shafts in the past so went thru them for good usable parts. I am having a friend build the other 2 shafts for about 100.00. They will be in good shape but not balanced. The truck is getting closer to the road. Iam lucky the front hubs, brake shoes, bearings, and rear end gear look new.The transfer case has a wobbly oil slinger and a leaky seal to the front Diff. Cheap fix there. Those parts are easy to get.I found the tie rod ends in Van also 100.00 TRW-ES354R and L I have a steering arm from my 52 dodge which fits in the drag link position. Is it legal to do that? The tie rods are adjustable so length is not a problem.Enough talking update complete.Ray.
