About RecFIN:

The Recreational Fisheries Information Network (RecFIN) collects and integrates sample data, and catch and effort estimates from state and federal Pacific Coast marine recreational fisheries sampling programs. This information provides important biological, social, and economic data for Pacific coast recreational fishery biologists, managers, and anglers. A primary goal of the RecFIN project is to standardize as much as possible all recreational fisheries data elements and collection techniques and to coordinate field methodologies so uniform and compatible data is available across both state and federal lines.

RecFIN Data:

RecFIN’s database includes statistics on catch, effort, economics, and angler demographics. The database contains recreational fishery data for the years 1980-89 and 1993-present. RecFIN data primarily comes from state agency sampling programs and, for 1980-2003, from the National Marine Fisheries Service nationally funded Marine Recreational Fisheries Statistics Survey (MRFSS). The surveys cover approximately 800 fishing sites along the Pacific Coast, with about 60% in California, 10% in Oregon, and 30% in Washington. In excess of 200,000 anglers are interviewed each year.

RecFIN is a cooperative effort between the state fishery agencies in Washington, Oregon, and California, the Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission, and National Marine Fisheries Service.
