About the Pacific Coast Marine Habitat Program:

The Pacific Coast Marine Habitat Program provides access to information and geospatial data related to marine habitat off the West Coast.  Much of the data currently presented through this program was developed and compiled in support of the Pacific Coast Groundfish Essential Fish Habitat Final Environmental Impact Statement (EFH EIS), published in December 2005.

Scientific and Data Information:

This cooperative coast-wide program aims to help policy makers and the public participate in ecosystem decisions.  The Pacific Coast Groundfish EFH Mapper features an interactive, on-line mapping tool that allows users to view, interactively query, and analyze much of the data that was developed to support the Groundfish EFH EIS without the need for GIS Software.  Users can select specific geographic areas of interest and query the data related to that area. This mapping application employs the IMAPS viewer developed by the California Department of Fish and Game.  Similar internet map applications presenting fisheries data for California and the Pacific Northwest are available through PSMFC's CalFish and StreamNet projects.

Additionally, the program website provides access to the wealth of information collected through the EFH EIS process, including detailed information about each of the 82 groundfish species (including rockfish, flatfish, sharks, and fish such as lingcod and sablefish), economics, and fishing regulations in marine managed areas.  Scientists and other users can also obtain the GIS data itself and link to documents and other useful information through this site.
